I have a piece of music with two voices for each bar (tenor / bass). Muting voice 1 leaves only the second voice playing, so MuseScore clearly has two different voices for each bar. My intent is to set voice 1 in the Tenor bar to one instrument, and voice 2 to another. Clicking "Show channels" in the mixer, and nothing happens.

If you use the closed score SATB templates or the "Men" 'instrument', you'd have channels for Tenor and Bass in Mixer, that you can use a staff text and it's properties on to assign voice 1 (and 3) to Tenor and voice 2 (and 4) to Bass, and then the Mixwer to assign different sounds to those channels.
So change whatever instrument you're using now to "Men"

Hi,

Thanks for the quick comment. It works. It is very difficult to see that the arrow is faded out (which now becomes visible when it is something one can interact with) - a suggestion.

Additionally, if I mute voice 1 in the mixer and then export as mp3, the voice is reactivated again. Is that also by design?

I will elaborate tomorrow further, it's getting late. There seems to be some further issues for me at least, I cannot mute one voice in exporting to mp3. Additionally, when changing the instrument to 'Men', the mixer does allow me to expand the channels, but the playback instrument for the second voice does not seem to apply, the two voices are kept in the first channel within that part.
