Inserting a note changes the size of the main window
MuseScore 3.5.2, Windows 10, screen resolution 1920x1080, UI scaling 1.5x.
To reproduce: Open a score for editing. Change the main window so that it's visible, but not maximized. Grab the main window's right-hand side and resize it so that it's quite narrow (less than half of the screen width). Press "N" to switch to note entry mode. Insert a note onto the score by clicking the canvas with the left mouse button.
Observed behaviour: The main window becomes around 150 pixels wider when "N" is pressed. It then becomes around 150 pixels wider again when the note is inserted.
Expected behaviour: The size of the main window should not change.
The bug seems to be (partially?) triggered whenever a note is selected. It's not possible to resize the main window back to its original size until all notes have been deselected.
This is a problem for me when digitising scanned scores. It's easy to have both MuseScore and an image viewer on-screen at the same time using Aero Snap, but as soon as I start editing, MuseScore becomes wider and the two windows overlap.
Comments
This doesn't fix the bug but I make my PDF view full screen and MuseScore cover the top half of the screen only. When I need to scroll the PDF I move my mouse to the bottom half of the screen and use my mouse wheel. If I need to see the top half of page 1 I move MuseScore to the bottom half of the screen for a short time.
This works for my workflow because it's rarely necessary for me to click on a PDF.
The reason is that status bar text becomes wider and forces window to change its size. See #310485: Status bar forces window width and this topic for discussion of this issue.
