Issues with changing dynamics font size

• Dec 11, 2020 - 14:42

Referring to the images following:
There appears to be an issue with the font size for the dynamic symbols, as I change the font size the displayed size changes very wildly, but also rather specifically:
a sudden decrease from 12 to 13:

Then there is a sudden increase from 20 to 21, then back to normal from 21 to 22:

These strange formattings only happened to the "s" in sfff, which I had inserted manually. However, the problem only cropped up today upon opening the score, and affects all the sfffs in my score. It doesn't seem to affect new ones that I insert however. Curious if this is more likely a corrupted score on my end?

EDIT: I also realised this was from that time when I didn't know how to insert the "s" symbol, instead I had inserted the "s" from the dynamics palette, double-clicked then copied and pasted it onto an "fff", not sure if this is part of the problem oops.

Referring to the attached score, examples of the problem can be found from bar 152 onwards. Similar problems were present in earlier measures but have been manually deleted and replaced, and I do not have a backup copy to provide.

I can't say for sure how to reproduce it, but I did roughly this:
- Insert "s" symbol from dynamics palette
- Double click to enter edit mode, select the "s", cut
- Insert "fff" symbol from dynamics palette
- Double click to edit, paste "s" symbol. Symbol is automatically italicised. Un-italicise, then select and increase font size to 21. At this point the "sfff" looks ok.
- a few days later (after opening and closing score a few times), font problems appear, "s" is now suddenly much larger, "fff" remains the same size. Problem does not occur on inserting new symbols.

Copy/paste of individual characters within text loses formatting, this is a known limitation. That - plus confusion between the regular "s" and the special script "s" that isn't just an italicized "s" but is a totally different character that only happens to look similar - I think explains what you are seeing. When you say things change a few days later, almost certainly what really happened is, the confusion over these points caused you to do some further editing that you forgot to list explicitly in the steps.

But if at some time in the future you really do come up with a precisely series of steps that reproduce a problem, do let us know. Certainly the copy/paste issue we know, though.
