Audio output

During play back, the sound comes from my my desktop computer's speakers instead of through the headphone jack. How can I fix this?
This is not the case with MuseScore 2.

You haven't given us much to go on.
My old laptop has audio software (Smart Audio, accessible from Control Panel) that sometimes I have to reset to headphones or speakers. Also check I/O in MuseScore preferences.

Sorry I didn't give more help.
If you are using Bluetooth headphones, make sure they are on and working before you start MuseScore.

In I/O, in the center just under the tabs is a Devices drop down menu. Mine is set to speakers and the headphones still work. Your list might be different. Try a couple. Remember to select Apply and OK at the bottom if you make any changes. Also click Reset Audio and MIDI Devices.

Strangely, I did nothing. When I opened it today, it went through some kind of brief set-up procedure on it's own that I've never seen. When I played a score, it was comming through the head phone jack like I hoped it would. Then, I opened I/O in Preferences just out of curiosity and the API setting had changed from MME (I think) to Windows WDM-KS. I don't know why or what they mean.

Update. I opened it just now and it is back to how it was before (not playing through head phone jack). Also not responding. Reopened it several times, tried changing I/O settings and no sucess. The last time I opened it, it went through the start-up procedure again and it had changed the I/O settings to where it worked before, but now it still doesn't play through the head phones.

In case of interference with other programs, esp. on Windows, go into your soundcard configuration from Control Panel and ensure that the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device in the Advanced tab of both Playback and Recording is unticked.

MME and Wasapi are some of the audio drivers included in Windows. MuseScore will try to find the best combination for your system. If you can get back into MuseScore (try opening it with a score) experiment with different drivers from the drop down menu. Don't forget to APPLY.
I had to do this just this morning when my copy had choppy playback, and also not responding, after working just fine for some time.

Update. On 3rd time opening MuseScore, the playback was garbled (which was an improvement over nothing at all). I went to I/O in Preferences and clicked on "Restart Audio and MIDI Devices". That cleared it up. But now when I reopen MuseScore, the first beat of a score still sounds garbled and then immediately clears up. I guess I can live with that.
