Wide space between staves - but only on last system. Why?

• Feb 11, 2021 - 00:36

Hi, everyone. Perhaps one of you can help.

I'm learning how to enter figured bass. I also wanted to experiment with Musescore playing an arpeggio that extends between staves. I followed the instructions by Mike320 (at https://musescore.org/en/node/154556).

As you can hear from the attached .mscz score, last measure, the arpeggio works.

However, as you can see, the distance between the two staves is huge! I have no idea why, nor can I find how to fix it.

Can some of you help, and also tell me what led to this in the first place so I (hopefully) don't make this same error again.

Thanks to everyone in this forum! The manual is great, but it helps so much to have experienced users to help.

David (Seattle)

Looks like added an arpeggio mark to the bottom staff then physically dragged it up to the space occupied by the top staff, and MuseScore dutifully added extra space to prevent a collision. Instead of dragging between staves, add the apreggio to the top staff then use Shift+Down if the goal was to actually encompass both chords.
