Erroneous update prompts
Every time I launch MuseScore, I get the same update prompt. "An update for MuseScore is available: MuseScore 3.6.2 r.3224f34An update for MuseScore is available: MuseScore 3.6.2 r.3224f34"
I dutifully click on the link, the new version of MuseScore downloads. Then I get a prompt saying the file already exists in my download folder. That's because I've been through this several times before. I download it anyway, install it. Rinse and repeat.
MuseScore says I have:
OS: macOS 10.16, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.0.487915347, revision: 1977cb3
This is probably my fault. What am I doing wrong?

Apparantly you have just downloaded is, and several times, but not installed it.

Jeez, I thought I installed it. With the installer, I dragged the MuseScore icon to the Applications folder. It seemed to install.
I just tried it again. Same thing happened. The downloaded update is MuseScore-3.6.2.548020600
I tried deleting old versions of MuseScore from my applications folder. No help.
I own a copy of AppZapper. Maybe I should completely delete MuseScore and start over?

Did you stop the running MuseScore 3.6.0 before installing 3.6.2?

I think so. I used AppZapper to completely delete 3.6.0 and all its preferences files, then installed 3.6.2. It worked this time.
Thanks for your help.
