1) Add a chord symbol
2) Quickly hit space twice to move forward by 2 beats
3) Repeat semi rapidly
(Within about 5-10 measures the program freezes and I lose my progress because it never becomes responsive)

Sample score? What version of MuseScore (exactly) and what Operating system?

Might also depend on the specific chord you are entering and what note you select to start with. So please give us precise steps to reproduce the problem.

BTW, you don't need the half rests - the whole point of pressing space is that it allows you to move beat by beat even when in an empty measure.

Reproducibility Always Randomly

It happened seemingly randomly and I tried it with several chords. Every couple of minutes I was having to restart the program. I remembered I have the TempoChanges plugin and tried disabling it. The problem seemed to go away, but I had a couple more crashes last night that had nothing to do with chord symbols.

I did the half rests ahead of time before I realized that I could hit space to progress through the score.

I don't know that I could give you precise steps because I did it differently every time. The only thing I can think of that connects all my issues lately is each time it happened when the program tried to play a sound. Not every sound crashes it, but musescore seems to have a weird relationship with my sound. Half of the time the sound doesn't make it to my speakers, and 100% of the time nothing can access my speakers if the program is running.

Indeed, it seems likely the issue is not specific to chord symbols, but some sort of conflict with the particular audio driver you are using. You might want to try selecting a different one in Edit / Preferences / I/O. If that doesn't work, try asking for help on the Support forum, being sure to include as much relevant information about your system as you can (operation system, audio devices, settings in preferences, etc).

I might have a similar case here:
Freeze when entering triplets

I remembered I was playing to my Bluetooth speaker and had some troubles getting the sound outputted there. So as Marc stated, it might be an issue with Audio driver. A reboot of my PC 2 days later solved the issue.
