  2. Try to pull down the volume.

You mean the left most slider? Works for me.
You mean any of the sliders for the instruments? Works for me too

Please attach a score and describe what you are doing in more detail - which slider in particular you are adjusting, what you expect to see happen, and what happens instead. Could be a corruption of some kind in your score, could just be a misunderstanding over how the Mixer works.
