MusicXML error message
MuseScore considers the MusicXML element <duration> to state the musical time that should be allocated to a note. I consider this to be inappropriate, but that is a topic for another thread. For this thread, I will proceed based on the way MuseScore works now (version 3.6.2).
When a MusicXML file is presented for import, the MuseScore syntax validator adds up the musical time values of the <duration> elements for all the notes in a measure, and matches that total against the asserted musical time length of the measure as given by the encoded time signature. If they do not match, we get an error message, like this:
It seems to me that the language here is backward. With a 4/4 time signature, we should expect 4/4 worth of notes in the measure.
In this example, all the <duration> elements add up to 3/4. So I would think that the message should be: Expected: 4/4; found: 3/4
