more detailed note entry via upper/lower case characters

Currently, the UI already provides a good guess, whether to go up or down the gamut. Sometimes it fails though.
My suggestion is to use upper/lower case characters to specify the direction down/up or alternatively, to use lower case to select the nearer value and upper case to select the farther one.
