Right-clicking a Measure

• Sep 4, 2014 - 16:27

Hello everyone,

I've been playing around with MuseScore 2 for about an hour now (fantastic work, by the way). I have noticed a problem with large scores like full orchestral scores. In the MuseScore 1.X release, you could right-click inside any measure and select from various options like measure properties, etc. In the new Beta release, you can do the same thing but only within the upper half of the score sheet.

For example, I have one staff for every instrument (except strings, where it's one staff for each section). Even the individual horns and trumpets get their own staff. So, the score sheet is rather large. Now, I can right click a measure and bring up the context menu only within the top half of the sheet, i.e. from the woodwinds until the last horn staff. Within the bottom half of the sheet, trumpets through strings, I cannot bring up the context menu at all, neither in the page view nor the continuous view.

If there is a note in an otherwise unright-clickable measure, the note can be right-clicked, bringing up a context menu from which you can select measure properties, but none of the other options are available from the measures own context menu (if that makes sense).

Any thoughts or insights on this "problem"? Is it really a bug or am I just missing something within the new release?

Thanks,

Peter

I've never seen anything like this. Can you post the score you are having problems with? I could imagine such a thing happening with the Hide Empty Staves otpion as there have been a number of similar bugs fixed, but so far I can't reproduce a problem like yours.

I think I figured out the problem. When I create a new score for an orchestra, the default page size (8.5"x11") is obviously too small for all the staves, so that about half of them are off the page and out of view when you're on "page view". In Musescore 1.3, I would just enlarge the sheet so everything fit. The new Beta release, however, has the "continuous view" feature so that page size is not a factor; you have a continuous view of the score from top to bottom, left to right.

Again, this bug prevents me from right clicking a measure and bringing up the context menu when I'm in the continuous view. The problem lies in the fact that, even though I'm in continuous view, the staves in question are technically off the page in the other view. The work around is to simply enlarge the page. With all the staves on the page, you can right click any of them in either view as usual. However, you shouldn't have to do this if you're working in the continuous view since, again, the page size is not a factor - that is, after all, the point of the continuous view.

I have attached a large score on the default page size so you can, hopefully, see what I'm talking about.
