Pasted pictures changing size

• Aug 22, 2021 - 16:06

Hi,
I know Musescore is not a graphics program, so maybe I'm trying to do too much. Anyway my problem is when I return the next day to begin working on my music the pictures all revert to some strange sizes. (Not always and not in all the books I'm working on...some remain - which makes me think it is something I'm doing wrong. - sending one that is fine also) You can see the difference in the PDF I saved last night...then this morning - argg! everything is off in my working MS version.

Last night I made sure to save the file as both "save" and "save as" as well as "PDF" before leaving.

Today I began to return back to correct size everything on pages 4 and 5 and then stopped. So you can see the problem from pages 6 onward. Either I'm doing something really wrong, or I need to prepare the pictures in another program????

Attachments Songs to Sing and Play Book 2 mscz has issues - PDF is how saved last night
Songs to Sing and Play Book 1 mscz is fine and not changing when I open it today.

Thanks,
Sora

All these I began in 3.6.2
I had an old version, years ago, but I doubt that is still in this computer.

As you experienced today - I'll resize. Then save. Alright for the day. -- Then the next day I'll open it and it's all some strange size, usually very much larger. I just don't know when it will stop resizing.

When it does stop, then it seems like it is stable as in the Elephant story.

Pretty weird and a lot of work to resize until it stays stable.

If it's the same size after the save, then later you see it different, most likely explanation is you have two copies of the score and are opening an older one. But if you discover a specific set of steps to follow to reproduce the problem, let us know. All I can say is, I've tried several things, including opening and re-saving the score multiple times, and am unable to get any of my size adjustments to your score not to stick.

Maybe a clue.

My work with pictures today:
1. resized all the pictures that were oversized after opening file.
2. added 3 new pictures - copies of each other but spread out through the document.
3. Saved and closed file. Opened later in the day. Found that all the work I did in resizing the oversized stayed.
4. The 3 new pictures - all opened larger than I had made them.

Since all the other pictures stayed this time. Could there be a required number of times the program needs to see a pasted picture before it is willing to accept and maintain the correct size?

Tonight I will resize the oversized pictures...and add some other new pictures...and update you with the outcome when I open it again tomorrow.

Not thinking a new attached file would help at this point.

Where do I go to turn off the "Size in staff space units" and do I do this for every picture pasted or will it be global for the document?

Save and reload will have to do for now...but that is quite a lot of extra time considering the number of pictures. And I will be redoing all of these books once my artist has new artwork.

Today again opened and found the pictures that were newly placed yesterday are now almost twice the size. Generally this is what happens. Newly pasted pictures increase in size after the first save, close and open.

I will be correcting them, so while I'm sending the link, it may be corrected by the time you see it again. Not sure how that works. Problems begin now on page 11 and onward. You can also see the pictures that are now stable.

At this point I will follow the instructions to paste, save, close, reopen, then begin adjusting the size. Save again, and hopefully on this second reopen the pictures will stay.

YET ANOTHER REASON why Stability is important on the First input -- for me, at least -- is that I need to check the layout when each page is printed. Then if the size of a picture is too small or large after viewing the actual printed page, then I resize the picture. But if I do so, then I have to save, this new resized picture. Then close out, then return and save again. This was why I wasn't sure what was happening...because I have so many changes that I couldn't keep track of them all.

Ok. Actually last night I pasted a lot of new pictures. Each time I went immediately to the Inspector and disabled both "automatic placement" and "size in staff space units." This morning I opened the file. All was fine. The newly pasted pictures were in their correct places with their correct sizes. I saved and left the program.

Then I went to my gmail and saw your statement "Do not disable autoplace". So I immediately opened the file again and clicked through each picture adding back the autoplace. Then I saved and closed. Returned. All is still okay.

Then I added one more set of pasted pictures. Just disabled "size in staff space units." Saved, closed, opened. Wonderful!!!! It saved all the correct sizes and places. So maybe that is the process for pasting and resizing and placement into Frames - disable the "size in staff space units" for each new item.

Thank you, Shoichi and Marc.

LOL - absolutely. How do I do that? Through the Test.mscz? or maybe I need to read a few community threads to learn. Totally appreciate everyone at MuseScore!!!!! This is an amazing program and I'm so grateful for all the people that have worked on it over the years and are still continuing to upgrade for all of us users!
