Automatic Clef and Key Sig Insertion

• Sep 30, 2021 - 17:06

Musescore is inserting clefs and key signatures for each part in the middle a system in my score, at a particular spot (bar 12), even though they haven't changed. (file attached) I delete them but they come back. What could be triggering Musescore to do this?

I see no clef or key signature at bar 12.

This is a screen capture of what I get.

It may be a temporary glitch that will go away if you force a screen redraw by switching to continuous view and back again.

It seems this originally came in via MIDI import, perhaps there were meta events in the original MIDI file calling for these. There were also bugs in some older versions of MuseScore that could in certainly cases result in these spurious symbols. All known cases of that have been fixed, but if the score was ever edited with an older version, it might now be "infected" with those changes. Or there might be some new as yet undiscovered case where this can still happen.

In any case, the solution for the clefs should be just delete them. For the key signature, try changing to something else then deleting that. You can also try going to Format / Style / Page and unchecking the courtesy clef/key/time signature options, saving, closing, reloading, then re-enabling those options - this should get rid of any others that are still hiding.

Thanks, I'll be it does have something to do with the MIDI import. I tried all these solutions without success, but forcing a screen redraw as suggested in the previous comment seemed to do it. I've also exported a midi version of the score and will examine that for issues.
