Using digital piano to write music into MuseScore

• Oct 9, 2021 - 20:27

I'm new to MuseScore and more new to composing using my digital piano (Yamaha) to capture what I'm creating. I know how to use MuseScore manually. But I'd like to try playing the piano and letting it write into MuseScore what I'm playing.

I've watched a YouTube video tutorial Midi input Real-Time but the it doesn't seem like I have the right version of MuseScore per the instructions he's giving. I do not have the option Note input in the tabs. I hope I am making sense with what I'm wanting to do.

Thanks!

Note input isn't in a tab, it's a button on the main toolbar - with an "N" icon and a little dropdown menu next to it.

But if you're expecting there to be AI that can figure out all the rhythms you are playing, and which hands is playing what, and turn it into readable sheet music - that technology doesn't exist. Various programs make various attempts at it and get can you to different places towards that goal, but it's pretty rare to get a result that is actually better / faster than entering the music normally.

if you'd like the try with MuseScfore, the best way would be to first record a standard MIDI file with a sequencer (perhaps one is built-in to your keyboard). Then import that MIDI file into MuseScore. This will give the AI the best chance of success compared to attempting to play directly into MuseScore, which is much more limited/
