Measure length
Now and then one single measure becomes very wide, as wide as the page. Why does this happen and how do I shrink it down to the size of the other measures?

Difficult to say without seeing an example score(.mscz file). But it could be you have a system break on the measure (indicated by a grey arrow in a box above the right hand end of the measure). If you see one, delete it and see what happens.
