Move note head to opposite side of stem Shift + X Why??

• Nov 14, 2021 - 13:03

This is an operation one can do, listed in the Handbook. But I am curious as to the circumstances in which this would be desirable? In Preferences > Shotcuts, it is listed as "Mirror Notehead".

Naturally, flipping the stem with x is useful, but I have never wanted to attach a stem to the "wrong" side of a notehead.

It can be helpful if you want 2 noteheads in the same chord with the same pitch, like this:

to demonstrate that it is still 2 "voices", but here in unison

Also, back when this command was added, MuseScore was much less smart about which side of the stems notes should appear on, in various cases involving seconds and multiple voices. So it was necessary to use this command just to avoid collisions o other problems. For the most part that isn't needed any more, but some cases involving cross-staff notation might still benefit from it.
