Selecting stems of multiply notes using the inspector

I am trying to select the stems of multiply notes, without selecting the note heads.
If I select a range and in the inspector I go for "Notes" (or "Grace Notes"), all the normal note heads (or those of grace notes) are selected. With the active selection of these heads, I press "Stem" in the inspector, then only the first stem is selected. I believe that the function should work as selecting all the respective stems but not only the first one.

It's not really clear what you are trying to do, or why, or what goes wrong when you try. But in general, to select all stems within a given range, first select the range, then Select / All Similar Elements in Range Selection. Or simpler yet, click the first stem then Shift+click the last. Same for selecting all of any given element type within a range.

If you have a specific case where this doesn't work, or if I'm not understanding what you meant, please attach your actual score and describe the problem in more detail.
