When starting Musescore on a specific system, a white noise sound is heard in the right ear.
Prequistion
- Musescore version: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch. : x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.2.548021803, revision: 3224f34
- Windows 11
Problem:
- White noise in the right ear replaces the system's sounds.
Steps for potential reproducibility:
1) Download and install Musescore for Windows 10.
2) Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
3) Launch Musescore.
4) White noise in the right ear replaces the system's sounds.
Note:
- When using OBS to record, the recorded video is normal (no white noise).
- White noise replaces every sound from the computer in the right ear (YouTube, audio player), while the left ear is normal. Only the right ear is exposed to white noise.
- Musescore is still playing white noise even after closing.
- When there's no audio, there's no white noise.
Workaround
- While Musescore is on, turn off and on Enhance Audio in Windows 11 Settings > System > Sound > Properties. (Side effect is Musescore's playback won't start, but the exported mp3 and wav files are normal.)
I attempted the following solution (which did not work):
- Revert to factory setting.
- Turning on and off the device.
Comments
I just discover another workaround. It is not as tedious and actually is useable.
- Go to Preference->I/O
- Change the API to Windows WDM-KS, and change the device to stereo mix.
- Press OK and restart Musescore.
The problem isn't common to all Windows 11 systems but seems unique to yours. In order to investigate, we'd need to understand more about the unique properties of your audio setup - what the default device driver is on your system, what hardware is involved what other audio programs are running, etc. Probably best to start a thread on the Support forum so people can try to help track down where the problem stems from.
OK, this is how I solved it: You need to uninstall your Realtek driver (I presume you do have one.) That might explains lots of things.
All of the above characteristic comes from the Realtek driver. Uninstall your driver and here's how to do it.
For some reasons, Musescore and Realtek doesn't like each other :)
