normalization workaround
Is there a way to not have normalization in mp3 or other audio file export? I want the file to play exactly how the musescore playback sounded due to how i have the settings set to how it would sound if its played by an live orchestra like the crescendos. The disable normalization doesnt work as it still normalizes without my permission

Did you use menu item: Edit > Preferences then on the 'Export' tab, in the 'Audio' section, uncheck 'Normalize'?

Yes. Same at exporting menu both are disabled.

Then share the score and/or the exported audio files for inspection. On my machine there is most definitely a difference between having normalization checked or unchecked.

To be clear: normalization isn't compression. A normalized file does sound like a live orchestra (or whatever), and still has crescendos. The digital values are just adjusted for correct results when played back over the web or on the radio. The whole point being, to make the audio the same volume as other songs on the web or on the radio, so that other users are not forced to listen to music at the volume you prefer, but will hear it at the volume they have set. So best not to disable it unless you don't plan to share the file with anyone else.

oh hmmm for some reason even when exporting to max settings for mp3 doesnt sound exactly like the playback. i had export mp3 before and it had sounded the same as playback with custom soundfont etc

I understand that scores uploaded to MuseScore.com are normalized ... and that should not impact dynamic levels, but rather it merely raises the amplitude overall. But my scores sound compressed when I listen to them on MuseScore.com, so I wonder if there's normalization and compression applied. And if so, is the a way around that, or to normalize only?
I hear it in this test score.

When I adjust the playback volume in MuseScore to the same level (setting to -25 or so), I don't hear any obvious difference anywhere. is there a specific note you feel is louder or softer than it should be?
since apparently i can make mp3 file size bigger than the max size to attach to this comment i have to put it on drive. i recorded my musescore instead so that i dont have to complicate things on telling what i used so u can replicate the playback.

Tough to tell what's going on just from the recordings, better to post the score itself. It seems the second version did not honor the dynamics, but that's not normalization, that's more likely an issue with a difference in synthesizer or soundfont settings.

ok thanks i think i fixed it. i noticed that i put the soundfonts in sounds (which apparently let me believe its another version of using soundfont) but i just realized that it should be the one in documents instead

Those two recording have a different beginning altogether and are played at a different tempo as well.
Anyhow, even if I load them both into Audacity and apply Normalization on the similar region, the result seems pretty similar to me:
