Musescore 3.6.2 will not install on my Windows 10 PC.

• Feb 1, 2022 - 22:12

When I double-click on the installer file, the only thing that happens is an error message that pops up.

In case this is helpful in diagnosing the problem, the error message says: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

Where did you save the MuseScore msi installer? Hopefully not in the Windows directory (or the System32 folder).

Other thoughts:
Are you running Windows 10 S -- which requires apps downloaded from Windows Store?

Have you tried installing MuseScore using Windows 'Safe Mode'?

First, to answer your questions, I downloaded the file to my downloads folder.
These are some of my Windows specifications:

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H2

I have now tried installing Musescore using Windows Safe Mode. (It didn't work, in case you were wondering).

Second, after much research, I have installed Musescore 3 successfully on my PC.
To do so, I had to access my administrator account. (It appears there is a higher ranking Administrator account above the "Administrator" account I use normally). This is how I did it:
1. I opened Cmd prompt in admin. mode and typed in "net user administrator /active:yes". (This allows the Admin. account to become visible in the start menu.)

2. I moved the Musescore.msi file to a nice public location (Local Disk C:).
3. I signed into the Admin. account and installed Musescore with no problem at all, it worked exactly as it was supposed to.
4. I signed out of the Admin. account and signed back into my other account.
5. I entered "net user administrator /active:no" into the Cmd prompt. (This hides the Admin. account again).
6. I navigated to the folder where the musescore application was and created a shortcut to the desktop.
7. I checked to see if it ran as a program on this account. It did.

Thanks for all the helpful comments and suggestions. Much appreciated.
