IMV, it should be easier to turn chord symbol playback ON or OFF for each score rather than modifying Preferences (sorry, that should be "Format > Styles > Chord symbols" –edited 16.00 GMT)) each time. Some possibilities:

  • A "chord symbol playback" tick box in the Play panel?
  • A button or tick box visible in the main program window?
  • A shortcut option?

Not sure what you mean about preferences, that's a way to set some defaults, but it's not the way to toggle playback of chord symbols for a given score. That's done in the Inspector aka Properties. So, it's already in the main window. But indeed, an additional button could eventually be useful too. The question is, would this actually affect the score (and thus have its state saved) or just be a temporary override like most of the rest of the toolbar and play panel buttons? Best to discuss this first in the forum to get more feedback.

Oops, I meant "Format > Styles > Chord symbols" (not Preferences). This feature wouldn't overrule Inspector settings.

The style setting is indeed the one, as mentioned, it's currently available directly from the Inspector via the "Set as style" button, like most other style settings. So I wouldn't favor yet another checkbox in the same window to do exactly the same. But possibly, one that acted as temporary override to the style setting, like the play panel tempo override. Again, worthy of further discussion in the forum.
