Don't use the Print dialog for that in the forst place but use File > Export > PDF instead, this is the proper way of doing this.
For File > Print to produce a PDF, you'd need a virtual PDF printer and select that in the print dialog rather than a physical real printer.

Thanks to Jojo-Schmitz for helpful response which I’m pleased to say works. I have previously used the print dialogue (hundreds of times), to create a pdf. This method no longer works, but no matter as method suggested by Jojo works perfectly.
PDF printers should still work, but are not recommended to be used here anyhow
PDF print does work for me, but the resulting file is about twice as big. Just don't do it.

Pdf printers are not provided by Musescore. They are provided by, for example, Microsoft or Foxit or Bullzip or CutePDF etc. It depends which one you have installed. Support for those may (or may not) be available from those suppliers rather than here on Musescore.org.
