I'm not seeing a way to control playback speed in the current dev build of MuseScore 4.0. This feature is available in MuseScore 3 via the Play Panel, either using a slider or entering a percentage value.

I'm guessing this is a feature some people never use and that others use a lot. It's one that I use a lot, e.g. for playing along with MuseScore while practising.

  • Has it been removed as design decision; or
  • Is it just not implement yet;
  • or is it in the current development builds of MuseScore 4 but just not easy to find?

So the Play controls disappeared on me too. Not sure but I was trying to figure out adjusting the playback tempo and I think I unchecked it in the View drop down menu. It did not go back when I checked again but the 6 dots brought up the floating panel which had the tempo feature I was looking for. The problem I have now is getting the playback controls back where they were...
Does anybody know if there is a video that addresses playback?

After reading many related threads, I stumbled upon this one to find the solution.
I am so glad I found the answer so I can control the tempo.
It seems incredibly strange that such an important control is hidden by default and unable to be displayed by any of the menu options.

I would recommend a change in design where the tempo control slider is clearly visible on default installation.

Indeed, I would like to see a change in design regarding this.
Slowly MS4 is progressing to the state when it will be better than MS3 in every aspect, but still there is a lot of job for them to achieve this. Another very strange decision for me is one that in Properties panel you have to click on a button to open a separate window so that you can access some properties. I like more expandable/collapsible panels like in MS3, and it would be beneficial for users that the states of opened/collapsed for all panels are memorized during the user session.

I have just signed up for musescore pro plus, as I've found this software great for my daily piano practice.
However, when I start learning a new song, I need to slow the tempo, so having access to that control is very important.

Pro plus unlocks the official scores, which I want to use in my learning pieces.
It also unlocks full functionality of the musescore app.

Also, I don't mind supporting a company that is continually improving it's software, and is far cheaper than alternatives like Dorico or Sibelius.

I wish that the musescore app was functional on Android, but for now, the Windows app is working well.
