I will use my real example when creating a new hymn.
1. Create a new Hymn 595 file.
2. SaveAs Hymn 595.1 (the file created in my file folder is not a .mscz music file.
Workaround:
3. SaveAs Hymn 595-1 (the file created in my file folder is a proper .mscz music file.
4. Rename to Hymn 595.1 in the file folder.
5. Click on it to open it in MuseScore. (I can now edit it and save it properly; from this point, I can also Save As Hymn 595.2 or Hymn 595.3, etc., and the files created are proper .mscz music files.
Comments
When you put a period in the filename the characters after it are treated as the file extension and MuseScore doesn't add the MSCZ. When you use a dash ( - ) it is treated as a valid character. Don't use a period in the filename.
I can't reproduce, not on Windows (11). What Operating System are you using?
If Linux, try unticking Edit > Preferences > Advanced > ui/application/useNativeDialog, see also #297613: File save can't determine file type without extension
Why using MuseScore 3.3? The currently latest version is 3.6.2, and that is available since far more than a year now, so update to that.
