Real Time Recording: Notes appear and then disappear from staff

• Jun 16, 2022 - 17:44

Hey folks!

I'm incredibly grateful for this program and all the work that you do.

I'm taking a leap into real time recording on musescore, and I read through the handbook and the comments section several times, and I'm having an issue with real time recording.

I enter real time recording mode, and when I press a note, it appears on the staff, and then disappears as soon as I let go of the key. The recording does not advance on the score.

Using the same midi controller on ableton, I am able to record the information I want and then export it as a clip and load that into Musescore. It would be cool to get ride of ableton as the middleman, if possible.

Thanks!

Jordan

Anyone else dealing with this?

Are you in the automatic or manual real-time mode? Are you using the "real-time advance" key as documented to Handbook for the manual mode, or using the metronome as documented for the automatic? See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input-modes, and also https://youtu.be/SanyFSOI-Xs?t=175

That said, I think you'll also find the limitations of the real-time system in MuseScore (no tuplets, no multiple voices, having to specify the smallest beat unit first, etc) to be such that recording then importing a MIDI file actually leads to better results more quickly.
