Managing rests

• Jul 9, 2022 - 00:14

I'm just on my second score in Muse. The first went great, but this one is more complicated with rests and ties.

I cannot seem to manage rests. A 4/4 song treble measures with 4 whole notes, but the bass has 3 whole notes. I want the rest as the start of the measure, but muse keeps forcing it to the end of the measure. I cannot figure out how to move it.

It really is intrusive how it does rests, and ties are incomprehensible at this point.

I suspect when you say "whole" notes or rests, you really mean "quarter" - a single beat in 4/4 time. A whole note is four beats, so four of them would be 16 beats - you can't fit that in a 4/4 measure!

Anyhow, rests, just like notes, are entered left to right. So, in note input mode, move the cursor to the beginning of the measure, and simply enter the rests first. That is, select duration, press "0" or right-click. If you've already entered a note first by mistake, simply cut and paste it to the desired beat (Ctrl+X, Ctrl_V, same a all other programs).

Ties are dead simple, select the duration you want to tie to, press the tie button.
