Acoustic Bass Soundfont

• Jul 25, 2022 - 02:03

I am currently using the Acoustic Bass in MuseScore_General.sf3 for some backing tracks - see sample mp3
It is quite good, but it has a few "dead" notes and sometimes sounds a bit restricted rather than an open free breathing shaped resonance.

Any good suggestions?

Let me take a look at my annoying and time-consuming archive. If I can find suitable samples, I can try to make one. However, I don't know if there are quality (and Hi-Fi) Acoustic-Bass samples. Most of the ones I've heard so far are boringly dull.
Any soundfont's instrument can be used in large orchestral works, because it's multi-instrumental and the timbres somehow match. But in small group works, it is very important that each instrument is in harmony with the others in terms of timbre.

I've got a good free bass and drums soundfont on my site. The acoustic bass is really nice (4 velocity layers) with a nice rattle when played hard.

It includes the 1958 Otto Rubner double bass played and mapped by Drogomir Smolken, recorded by Ludwik Zamenhof. The samples are exceptional and some percussive effects have been mapped to some high notes. Royalty-free for all commercial and non-commercial use.
