Can I install a new version of MS without losing all the settings etc?

I am having problems with my version of MuseScore in MacOS and I'm wondering whether to uninstall it, and reload. However if I do that, presumably any settings I have, and any downloaded soundfonts etc. will be lost.

Is it possible to do a partial reload, so that the program itself gets set back to some sensible default state, but the soundfonts etc. are not wiped out, or do I just have to go right back and install everything from scratch? If so, then presumably I'll need to check all the add ons etc. which I might want to reinstall.

Something has changed recently - possibly after downloading someone else's score - and I really want to regain some of the functionality I had before. It wasn't perfect before, but now it's really gone off - and I'm not sure what's happened. Might make sense to check all the settings before taking drastic measures though.

As mentioned, reinstall normally doesn't accomplish much - it's incredibly rare for any problems to be due to installation having become messed up. So you can try it safely without losing anything, but chances are, nothing will be changed at all unless you had been actively going into the application package and messing with the files - then the reinstall will fix that damage.

Reverting to factory settings puts all your preferences and other settings back to defaults, but doesn't delete any files you downloaded. Your soundfonts will remain on your system, they will just need to be re-added i View / Synthesizer.

Merely downloading or even open a score can never break anything else about MuseScore's behavior on other scores, so whatever is going on couldn't be connected to that.

Without knowing what sort of problems you are having, it's certainly that reverting to factory settings will fix them (like, if you've set inappropriate UI font sizes in preferences or bad dynamics or effects settings in the synthesizer window etc). Before doing that, I'd be recommending being more specific about the problems you are seeing though, and what makes you think they might somehow be connected to installation or settings at all.

It looks as though the workspace settings may have changed. It may be easiest to check the pallettes and make sure that all the options I want to use are set up as I'd like them. It may take some time, but perhaps it would be simpler than trying to start completely from scratch.
