Piano pedal lines only appear correctly in parts, not full score

• Aug 14, 2022 - 08:28

If I add a pedalling line (like this ____/) to the main view, it's often hidden under the expression markings and low leger lines. But if I add that piano stave to a part, the pedal line is always spaced out properly underneath everything so it's clearly visible.

Is it possible to set things so the pedalling line also appears properly on the main view without having to create a part to do that?

Yes - this should happen automatically. Please attach the score you are having problems with.

This one, the full score tab has the lines going above/through expression markings, but the part is correct.

I tried recreating the problem with a new blank score and couldn't do it, so maybe there is something wrong with this file? I've been working on the piece this came from for a few months so maybe something got corrupted or a setting changed?

The usual conventions of music notation call for all pedal markings to be aligned on a system. The problem with continuous view, then, is that the entire score is one system. So if one pedal marking needs to be shifted far below the staff for whatever, they all do. That's not going to be how your actual score looks anyhow. And aligning all pedal markings would require the entire score to be laid on on every edit, which would be slow. So rather than make the whole program slow down just to produce a result that isn't how your score will look for real, MuseScore simply skips this whole procedure while in continuous view. Should be harmless, just leave the pedal markings alone during the initial entry in continuous view and ignore the collisions, then when you switch to page view when you're ready to actually lay out your score for real, all should be well.

If it bothers you to see the collisions for now, you can simply increase the default distance in the Inspector.
