Trying something new--not working out as planned!
As the subject states, I am trying to do something a different way, but I am unable to get the bugs out.
I want to arrange a piece with 5 short movements, all of which repeat via DS al fine or DC al fine. I would like all 5 to appear in sequence on the score and parts instead of creating 5 separate arrangements, with scores and parts on 5 separate pages. I separated the various movements with a horizontal frame, laid them out neatly and all was well for the first movement. When I get to the 2nd movement, I can write as normal but I am unable to play back my work--it always plays the 1st movement, but will go no further.
Is there any way to do this and still accomplish my original goal of having it all in sequence in the score and parts? I know I can simply do it the way I've always done it, but this way would be better if it's possible. At the end, I would like for the playback to be available for practice purposes by the players, as well as to demo the piece for anyone interested in acquiring it.
Thanks as always!
Scott

Hard to say what is going wrong without seeing the actual score, but in general, what you describe should work. At most you would need to use the Inspector to customize the info for the DS and segno so they don't get crossed up. And be sure to have section breaks between songs, not just frames.

Ah! What makes a section break? How does that differ from a frame?

Section breaks arte added from the Breaks & Spacers palette. They simply mark the logical end of a piece and reset things for the next - allowing you to change time signature and key signature without getting a courtesy signature at the end of the previous song, resetting measure numbers, fixing repeats to understand where the beginning it for the purpose of DC or end repeats without a start, etc. They also actu like ordinary system breaks but have no other visual function, so they aren't like frames at all, which are entirely visual and have no "meaning".

That does it! Thank you for the information once again. This will make a whole lot better job of pieces like this .

Marc,
This has worked great and I'm happy with the results--up till now! I have mostly finished 4 movements and have just started on the 5th, marked "Finale" on the score. When I write something in measure 1, all is good. However, when I begin measure 2, the numbering reverts back to the sequence with that of the 4th movement. This did not happen after either of the previous movements. I have repeated this multiple times and have gotten the same results each time--the numbering reverts to a continuation of movement 4, not the new set associated with movement 5. Very weird. I saved my work and then closed out MS, hoping that would fix it, but it did not.
Any suggestions?

Yes, it's a known temporary glitch where the very systems after a section break will sometimes display wrong measure numbers at first,. The problem goes away the next time there is a full relayout of the score - simply hitting save fixes it. And yes, it happens again as you enter notes again, but goes away again when you save again. Just put up with it for now, and now it will be fine in the end.

Then it should be numbered correctly when the full score is done, ready for exporting to pdf? Each time I save it, it comes back with the wrong numbers. These kind of things make me doubt my sanity!
Thanks as always!

When I loaded your score, the numbers were good. Only when I tried entering notes did things go awry

My experience too. Weird. Still, I learned something new that I can use again--thanks!

A bit snarky, but point taken. The problem with this question was that I didn't have the term for what I needed. To learn how to make "section breaks", I actually needed to learn the term; at that point, it would have turned up in my well-read handbook. After much searching, I put the question out on the help forum.

But that's where reading the entire handbook, front to back, does come into place: after that you know the terms

There is a thing called life, where one is prevented from taking the massive amount of time required for a full reading of multiple items we use in life. I just keep plodding along.
