MIDI Note Input Problems

Hey! I am trying to use my keyboard for note input with Musescore. I have a Yamaha YPT-220 and am running Windows 10 with Musescore version 3.6.2. I have connected the keyboard with a MIDI to USB adapter, and it shows up under preferences in the I/O tab. However, when I toggle the MIDI input button and press N, nothing I press on the keyboard comes through. Instead, when I press play to listen to have I have so far, the audio comes out of the keyboard speakers instead of the computer. The keyboard is turned on and connected before I open Musescore. Any help would be much appreciated.
