Trouble finding files and scores

• Sep 15, 2022 - 19:05

Hello,

I have been using musescore for a few months for my work. I have a Mac laptop, and everything has been going great so far, until yesterday. I tried to load some of the scores I had typed up, and it appears all of the documents have “disappeared”. I always saved them in a folder named “scores” under my musescore folder and they are no longer visible, and the folder appears to be empty I spent some time last night researching how to search my entire hardrive for the files and documents with not much luck. I was able to find the auto save files but it was mostly just incomplete or entirely blank scores, so those didn’t help much.

I have recently backed up my laptop so I can probably just go back and retrieve most of them through that method, but I wanted to ask and see if there is anything I might be able to do to retrieve them before I decided to reload my backup.

I’m not sure if this is a musescore or apple issue, but just let me know your thoughts and any steps I might be able to take to get them back.

Thanks!

Use menu item: File > Open Recent
Do you see any scores listed?
If the answer is yes, open one of them and use File > Score Properties and you will see the 'File Path' listed at the top.

Thanks for replying!

So I tried this just now, and all I can find are the auto saved files and like 2 other files that are available for some reason. They are all either incomplete or blank altogether. None are the files I am looking for unfortunately. Does this mean that the files have moved somewhere else you think? Or somehow deleted altogether?

Did you perhaps recently enable Google Drive for that folder? There is apparently some sort of bug where that causes MuseScore files to get marked as hidden, only on macOS. Even if it wasn't Google Drive doing this, do try enabling display of hidden files to see if they show up.
