French tablature note input
a. I have created an Early Music/Lute Tablature staff. I note in the Staff/Part properties that the number of strings is 6. I am unable to determine if there is a way to create a Lute Tablature staff for Archlute without having to manually add the additional basses and their tuning mamually - if I select Archlute as an instrument it deals with the number of strings and their tuning perfectly, but does not create a tablature staff.
b. When I create an Early Music/Lute Tablature staff I need to be able to add notes to the staff. However, even though I follow the Manual, nothing happens when (in Note Input mode) I press the desired letters or numbers.
Any thoughts on this?

Hard to say without seeing your score and knowing exactly what you are doing. If you attach your score and give precise steps to reproduce the problem you are seeing, we can understand and assist better.

Thank you for the GIF and Template file - I now have successfully created my Archlute (tablature) configuration.
In my opinion the manual is a little confusing in the Instruments dialog. In terms of the number of strings and their tuning, there is no difference between the choice of 'Lute', 'Lute (tablature)' and 'Lute - 6 course'. These all produce 6 strings in 'standard' G tuning. It would be less confusing, I think, to remove the first two items resulting in something like this:
Lute 5 - course in A
Lute 6 - course in G
Lute 7 - course in G
...
Archlute in G
Theorbo in A
The Lute (Tablature) choice confused me because it is not specific enough, and detracts from the configurable Staff Type setting in the Staff List on the right-hand side. I was seduced into choosing this 'tablature' option rather than Archlute and then configuring the staff type in the next step.
For my note input issue I am still unable to obtain any response to either numeric or alphabetic input.

Here's my template. Tablature staff for Archlute.
It is not responding to keyboard input.

Indeed, in the choice of instruments, the instrument "lute (tablature)" is a lute - 6 course. For all the others, it is necessary to change the staff type to show the tablature. There had to be a "default" I guess. You should know that the code was written 7 years ago! And once you know that (the default), it's not a problem anymore. As far as I can remember, this kind of "thing to know" is asked rather rarely in the forums, unlike some other topics about TAB.
For note input, unfortunately, I'm not behind your keyboard, and I don't know what can happen. You can see on the GIF that it works, using either the letters a, b, c, etc. or 0, 1, 2 (the row of numbers above the letters, not those of the numeric keyboard)
Are you working with Windows, Mac, Linux? (and which keyboard configuration?)
Have you changed the relevant shortcuts in Edit/Preferences/Shortcuts?

I've downloaded and tried your template and it works all right for me (Windows 10) - see attached. I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions.

I have solved my problem - thank you! My keyboard shortcuts for adding frets (letters) were empty. I can now enter letters successfully.
