Can't Write in Japanese on Linux

• Oct 13, 2022 - 04:47

Hello. In MuseScore 2.x and even earlier versions of 3.x I was able to insert Japanese text using the Mozc keyboard on Linux. I just downloaded the most recent version of MuseScore however and this feature is broken. I can't insert Japanese text anywhere in the program any more. When I create a new score, I can't enter the Japanese name. When I hit CNTL+L to insert text, even though I have the Japanese Mozc keyboard selected, only Latin characters show up. Does anyone know how to restore the entering Japanese text feature? I transcribe Japanese songs, and not being able to type in Japanese anymore is extremely frustrating. If it is a bug, can this be fixed? Or should I just keep using earlier releases of MuseScore?

By the way, I do have MuseScore 2 downloaded right now as well, and it is working with Japanese text.

Thanks in advance!

Please indicate the exact version number. Use menu item: Help > About...

Also make sure you are using the officially supported AppImage downloaded from this site, not any sort of unofficial third-party build obtained from elsewhere.

Yes, thank you. I downloaded the AppImage from
https://musescore.org/en/download/musescore-x86_64.AppImage

I actually downloaded MuseScore 2.3.2 from the Deepin App Store. That's the version where the Japanese text is working. I also downloaded MuseScore 2.3.2 from an official, non-app-store, site to see if it was something special with the app store version. Here's the site where I found the official release of MuseScore 2.3.2:
https://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore/releases/MuseScore-2.3.2/
Japanese text input doesn't work on that MuseScore 2.3.2 either. It's almost like they altered the Deepin App Store version to work with Japanese text. Can Japanese text input be made available in the officially downloaded MuseScore 3 as well though?

By the way, my distro is Deepin Linux.

I'm not familiar with that distribution, but they may well have built MuseScore with some special options to support alternate entry methods. What method are you trying to use to enter the Japanese text? Is it something I'd be able to test without a special keyboard?
