Inspector problem
For some reason unknown, my controls were missing (view, transpose, noted, etc.) I searched for an icon that would bring them back but couldn't find anything specific. I clicked on INSPECTOR and a gray screen came up which I cannot remove! I even tried to open a new program and the gray screen was also there. Any help with these two issues will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure which controls you mean - View is the name of a menu in MuseScore (should display at the top of the window), but there is no menu called Transpose, or Noted (or Note, or Notes). So I have a feeling that whatever you are talking about, isn't MuseScore. Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Yes. I am using MuseScore. Here is a screen shot of my page showing the problem. How do I get rid of this gray box?

ESC doesn't close an inspector window, does it?
ESC deselects things you have previously selected, and the result is then this empty inspector window, as shown in the screeshot.

Yes, this is true for dialog windows.
At the moment we assume that it is the inspector window and that becomes practically empty with ESC but gets not closed.

If you're saying that is what appears when you open the Inspector, close it again, view the View menu. Then do Help / Revert to Factory Setting to hopefully fix the issue so that it appears normal-sized next time. It looks to me like it has been resized too large and positioned partially off-screen. You might be able to fix that without the revert using Alt+Space to expose the Windows menu to move/resize the window.

It can also be helpful to double-click on the edge of this window when you see this double arrow as mouse curser. Then the inspector window folds back to its integrated view.
