tab to insert chords not working in 4.0

• Dec 28, 2022 - 01:01

I have to say I love 4.0
Developers done an amazing job bringing to much modern standards
Just not sure if some new behaviour is intended or is a bug...

I used to be able by pressing tab to go to next bar when inserting chords.
In 4.0 doesn't work anymore and once I insert a chord on a bar if I press tab it cycles through the windows menu ...play, metronome...palettes...

has this been noted already and is in the buglist?
Thanks

As noted in various other threads, the shortcut has changed to Ctrl+Right, which is consistent with how "next measure" works in other modes. Tab, as you are seeing, has a special meaning with respect to navigation of the UI itself (as per standard accessibilty guidelines).

As in previous releases, space is every beat or note; semicolon is every beat. It's supposed to be Ctrl+6 to skip by half note, same as in MU3, but a bug is currently preventing this shortcut from working on most keyboards. Should be fixed in an update relatively soon.

There are indeed reports of some keyboards - mostly on macOS (where the shortcut should of course be Cmd+Right) - where for some reason that particular shortcut doesn't get passed by the system to MuseScore properly. In those cases, then you do indeed need a workaround. You can probably customize the shortcut (in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts) to something else involving Space, semicolon, or the cursor keys, plus one or more modifiers. You want the "Go to next measure" command.

Note that without customization, semicolon is better than space because it moves by beat only without stopping for intervening notes.
