Project
Create a 12/8 score.
Add a septuplet on beat 1
Fill in the rest of the measure
The septuplet is counted as 1 quarter beat, not dotted quarter, resulting in the note being an eighth note too short.

I'm finding lots of bugs in the tuplet system. Octuplets are performing even worse. When I try to create a 16th note octuplet on the last beat of the measure (12/8 again) it creates them as 64th notes for some reason.
How are you creating the septuplet? Are you pre-selecting dotted quarter as the total duration (e.g., by typing "5 .") and then creating the tuplet (e.g, by pressing Ctrl+7? For me this works perfectly.
I suspect you might have forgotten that first step of selecting the total duration, and quarter just happened to be selected as the duration (perhaps you had recently entered a quarter note) and so it became the total duration of your tuplet.
If you have a specific score where "5 . Ctrl+7" does not produce a septulet over a dotted quarter duration, please attach the score and give more precise steps to reproduce the problem (eg, tell us where you are trying to enter this).
@Marc Sabatella thank you SO MUCH. I'm new and, after using Finale since version 1 (yes, I'm that old), I am accustomed to entering note then duration. Seems like MuseScore prefers duration then notes. This fixed the problem. Thanks for your help.
You're welcome! In the future, best to use the Support forum when you have questions about how something works in MuseScore. Then if it is confirmed to be an actual bug, we'll recommend you report it on GitHub.
