Saving pieces in pdf or original file doesn't work

• Feb 17, 2023 - 00:21

So as background I use Windows 10 with Musescore4. Ever since I updated to Muse4 I have been unable to save my compositions. I've tried the direct save--push the save button and nothing. Tried the export tab--push the save button and nothing. I'm getting tired of reentering my compositions when I want to work on them.
Help!!

Try using "save as" first. You should be able to see a save location at that point. Later you can use "save" to update that file.
What steps are you going through in the export function?

If you formerly have been using MuseScore 3...
be sure to check that pushing the save button did not overwrite any MuseScore 3 files you may have had opened in MuseScore 4.
Such file saves may have overwritten scores in your MS3 score folder rather than saving to a MS4 score folder.

When you say it doesn't work, what specifically goes wrong? Sounds maybe like you're implying the dialog never appears allowing you to select a folder and enter a filename? If so, I'd guess it's actually trying to open offscreen, like if you recently changed your display config and the old location no longer exists. or if you accidentally dragged the dialog off. Try View / Restore the default layout, and if that doesn't help, try Help / Revert to factory settings.

I updated successfully by removing muse3 and muse2 from my computer--a belt and suspenders sort of thing. Then it successfully updated--before that it would hang. Then I tried a test piece to save and it worked!!
Thanks!!
