In MS3 — Any way to opt out of the MuseScore 4 update notices?

• Feb 22, 2023 - 02:28

Since the release of MuseScore 4 museScore 3 launches with a link advertising the MuseScore 4 update. And users see that notification every time they launch the app.

This is NOT a problem for me. But I have students who struggle with MuseScore's tab bar, so they always quit MuseScore and open their next document from their file browser, like the Finder in MacOS. That means they see that notification every time they open a new document, and they find that annoying.

So I'm going to suggest an addition to the notification in the attached image. (I'd place the image inline but Safari remains unable to do so ... for months now. MacOS 13.1)

Thanks Jojo!

That will work for my students.

Unfortunately it turns off all update notifications.

It would be perfect if there was a Update setting that afforded an alert when there's an update, as we have now, but also allows the user to dismiss further display of the notification until there's another update. Kinda like the addition I added to the dialog I submitted.

Much appreciated!

As mentioned, it's not a problem for me, but three of my students have asked how to stop the notification on launch. So apparently the constant MS4 alerts annoy people.

But all's good. I'm sure they'll be happy with your Preference solution—which is actually at:MuseScore>Preferences>Updates.

They just won't know if they're missing further update v4.x notifications, and that's fine. I'll let them know when the time is right.

Thank you!

What Jojo is saying is that there will be NO further update to Musescore 3.
Never.
So they will NOT miss any V3 update message using that setting.
Only message that they won't see anymore is the "V4 available" one, which is exactly what you are looking for.

That dialog looks quite different for me (and doesn't follow MuseScore's language settingsno the dark theme):

The left button though allows to skip this version.
It announces 4.0.0, not 4.0.1 for some strange reason, so I assume it won't announce 4.0.2 either
