Playback Sound poor on new MuseScore 4

• Mar 5, 2023 - 23:24

I have just downloaded MuseScore 4 on my laptop and the playback is a very broken, crackly, and very echo based sound that often gets caught holding note for way longer than it is written. I need to correct all this asap. Please advise! I am composing major orchestral work I need to hear it too as I arrange this composition. Thank you!

Dear helper!
I did all the changes recommended and ... still the same issue. I have two sources for playback sound and both do the same thing. I need to get this fixed please, or have my orchestral work saved back as a version 3 in MuseScore as the was no issues on the sound using that. FYI, even if I export the file as an mp3 etc, it still has all those issues so I do not think that it is the devices doing the playback that is the issue here. Please advise and help as this work is looking to be performed for the very first time this year and I need to get it sent out with sound examples as well as the scores. Thank you! Try clicking the Properties button for your audio device and see what settings are there. If you see sample rate as a setting, make sure it's no more than 48 kHz.

BTW, I see most of your isntruments are set to use MS Basic, but the violin solo uses Muse Sounds. Normally all instruments in an orchestral scores should be using Muse Sounds. Any particular reason you've set it up otherwise?

Look at the trumpet part in measure 8. On that note you have a "fade out" symbol. I think you mean an accent. As i is, the fade out symbol makes the trumpet note extend almost indefinitely. Deleting the symbol made this part of the score play fine. Could you have used this symbol other places? This symbol doesn't seem to exist in MU3. When I opened the score in MU3, it wasn't there and the score played fine.

Thanks, that fixed that one continuous note but the music still continually crackles and breaks up. I Exported the piece though (see attached segment, mp3... Well maybe not as I cannot attach music sound files here) and the crackling is not there but I will have to adjust all the instrument dynamics again to have it sound right.

Also, please, how do I set the instrument sounds to all go through Muse Score? Could this help fix my issue on my laptop?

Yay, I found the sounds in the Mixer for each instrument. I have already loaded the String Sounds a couple of days ago but need to do the Brass and Woodwind but the Muse Hub has an error message saying that the helper service is not running and so when I select Connect it just hangs there.
The sound on my laptop and other deice is also good now! Thanks! Just need to be able to COnnect to the Hub and I will be ready to go!

I have been trying to use MU4 but lately I've noticed a lot of issues with playback. I'm not sure if any of this was improved from ver 4.0 to 4.1 but it it's quite puzzling. My main use of the program is transcribing bass lines into sheetmusic and adding chord symbols as a guide to that same part or to a different part (maybe 2 or 3 parts per file). But when navigating through the notes with the left and right arrows, the sound glitches and breaks a lot. Upon playback, often playback cutoffs and lags...

I'm using it on a dell inspiron laptop with W10 6th gen core i7 @2.5 GHz, SSD hard drive and 8 GB RAM not a top notch machine, but playback with MU3 doesn't exhibit any issues.

Also I'm not using musesounds because the bass part doesn't exist yet, but I'm not sure if there were a musesound for bass if it would also have the same issues.
