Help entering notes

• Mar 13, 2023 - 07:42

I'm new to MuseScore, and having some trouble entering my first score. The command most used is Ctrl-Z!
I am trying to create the following in a 4/4 bar.
dotted minim - dotted quaver rest - semi-quaver
It always seems to want to put the rest/rests at the end of the bar,
or put 3 semi-quaver rests instead of the dotted quaver rest.
Please can someone tell me how to get the order above please?
And please can you point me to the relevant page in the handbook.
Thanks for any help - it's a great piece of software!

  1. For your desired input, you must be in Note Input mode, then:
dotted minim: 6 . [note key]
    dotted quaver rest: 4 . 0
    semi-quaver: 3 [note key]

  2. MuseScore always keeps track of input so that the total duration of notes and rests always adds up to the total duration of the bar. So you must expect to see rests changing immediately after your input.

  3. Always input your notes left to right.
  4. Always set a duration change before you enter the note name (or enter 0 for a rest).
