MS3 version for newer Linux distros (e.g., Mint 21.1)

• Mar 20, 2023 - 03:34

I have been using MS3.6.2.MuseScore-3.6.2.548021370-x86_64.AppImage in Linux Mint 19.2. LM 19 is about to reach end of LTS, so I installed LM 21.1 for dual-boot. I tried using my MS 3.6.2 in LM 2.1 and the first thing I noticed is that I could not get past the initial config screen, evideltly because of a library incompatibility. Then I saw Jojo-Schmitz's comment https://musescore.org/en/node/334718#comment-1181518 about his PR updating MS 3.6.2; I figured he most likely built for a newer Linux distro with updated libs, so I decided to try it to see if it was an MS3 that would run under LM 21.1.

I went to the bottom of https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/actions/runs/4281504277, logged into GitHub, downloaded the file and unzipped MuseScore-3.7.0.4281504277-x86_64.AppImage, and tried running it in LM 21.1. It opened, and I was able to load a MS3 score, but playback mode would not run, and there were a few other problems with mouse-click functionality. So it's almost there.

WHen you say you had a problem that you theorize is because of a library incompatibility, can you explain in more detail? What exactly goes wrong, and what leads you to believe the issue has to do with a library incompatibility? It might, but know what your clues are will help people advise on how to solve it if so, or direct you to other solutions if it turns out that's not it.
