Slash Notation for Chord Charts in 2.0
Here's my solution for writing slash notation for chord charts in MuseScore 2.0:
For generic, 4-slash-per-measure notation:
1) In Treble Clef, insert a quarter-note "B" in the middle of the staff.
2) Get out of "Note-Input Mode."
3) Click on the note-head.
4) Click "View > Inspector."
5) In the Inspector menu, set the Note-Head to "slash."
6) In the Inspector menu, set the note to "Stemless."
7) Double click on the note-head, then type the down-arrow once. This will centre the slash.
8) Hold Shift + click on the note-head in the score (so that you highlight the note in a box).
9) Copy the selection, then paste it over the next quarter note. Fill the measure like this.
10) Hold shift and highlight the entire measure to copy+paste it in all the measures you need this.
For rhythmic-slash-notation:
1) In Treble Clef, insert a the rhythmic passage on a "B" in the middle of the staff.
2) Get out of "Note-Input Mode."
3) Click on the first note-head.
4) Click "View > Inspector."
5) In the Inspector menu, set the Note-Head to "slash."
6) Repeat steps (3) and (5) for each note of the notes in the passage.
7) Hold shift and highlight the whole passage.
8) Set "Vertical Offset" to 0.10sp.
This might seem like a lot of steps, but it is actually really easy, and reasonably quick to set up.I just wanted to give everyone a very clear, step-by-step way to do it. Let me know if you find a better way!!

Once I set the first measure using the above described techniques, I then hit Ctrl + A; highlighted the entire score, and then changed the note - head value to slash.
Works like a charm. I then saved the style (save style or load style) as Slash Rhythm Chart for future use.
Is there a way to have the slash chord rhythm above the staff? I would like to have melody to the tune in the staff and the strum pattern above the staff.

Yes, and in fact this, ordinary on-the-staff rhythmic notation, and ordinary slash notation are all supported directly out of the box in MuseScore 2.0. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/tools#fill-with-slashes and https://musescore.org/en/handbook/tools#toggle-rhythmic-slash-notation. Which is to say, the workaround described at the beginning of this thread is no longer needed.
In particular, to get rhythmic notation above the staff, simply enter the desired rhythm into voice 3, select it, and run Edit / Tools / Toggle Rhythmic Slash Notation. it's easier if you do this before entering the melody, but if you do have the melody entered already, just exclude it from the selection before running the tool, using the View / Selection Filter (then remember to enable it again or you won't be able to select anything in voice 1!)

Yes, I believe I had written the original thread during the beta of MS 2.0, before the slash notation tools were added. Very pleased to see these features have been incorporated, as they are essential in a notation program :)

Thanks a lot, 2.0 is great! I have used finale since 2000. I now prefer Musescore. It seems to even work better w/o the high price. Thanks for your reply and help. ~Matt

Is there anyway where I could place the slashes at higher position that the normal position? Because sometimes certain notes are high register, which would clash with the slashes.

The line for the slashes is controlled by the "Line" setting in the Inspector. So first add the slashes normally (whether normal slashes or the "rhythmic slash notation"), then with just the notes (not rests) selected, adjust the Line in the Inspector. Or, if you need the notes to "float" above the staff (no ledger lines), use the "horizontal offset". If you need further help, please attach the specific score you are working on and describe what you want to do, and we can show you exactly how to do it.

It could work, but it can only move either the note head or the stem separately. It could not move altogether.

If you use the Line, it moves everything together. Also if you use the vertcial offset in the *chord* section of the Inspector, not the *Element* section (which indeed moves each element within the chord separately).
