How To Create A New Score

• May 8, 2023 - 14:35

I just opened Musescore 4.0.2. It's so different that I can't even figure out how create a new score!

I want to create a jazz "lead sheet" with just a treble clef and chord symbols. In creating a new score I'm prompted to select "Family" (I select keyboards), "Instrument" (piano), and "Your Score" (??).

There's a drop down box under "Your Score" that says "Order". I don't know what "Order" means.

All I want is a treble clef. But no matter what "Order" I select I get a new score that includes treble and bass clef. How can I get just a treble clef? There used to be a selection for that. Is that gone now?

Also, is there a way to install an earlier version of Musescore? I need to get moving and I can't even get started. I don't have time to learn a new system.

Ok, I think I found something that works, although weird. I have to choose another instrument such as "guitar" to get just a treble clef in a new score. "Piano" only gets treble and bass clef. Right?

You probably were using 'Choose instruments'.
In the New Score dialog, click 'Create from template', then 'General', then 'Treble Clef'..

In 'Jazz' there is a 'Jazz Lead Sheet' with a handwritten look, "fakebook" style.
