playback voicing problem?

• Nov 9, 2023 - 18:19

Hi Peoples - please - I find MS4 playback voicing options (AudioFX) exceedingly limited - have made several attempts to get satisfactory and suitable iinstuments - is there a method of gtting the options similar to those as could be obtained in MS4? - thank you.

Please review your question.
What do "Audio FX" mean in relation to voicing. What is your definition of "voicing"? What are "suitable instruments"? I assume you mean MS3 in the last sentence.

Hi bobjo - thanks for your query - I am a choral singer & use musescore as an audio aid - when I have achieved an appropriate mix, I simply loop it and run it as background audio for a subliminal learn...
to do such necessitates applying different musical instruments to the relevant SATB work, for example; -
the harp to give precise entry points &/or the 'cello to give very clear length of sustain. I do not only use such for personal benefit but also procure .mp3 tracks for colleagues - it is a great aid to learning of any particular (SATB) harmony if ones voice part is stressed appropriately whilst the other voice parts
(e.g.) choir "oohs" or "ahs" remain at reduced gain.
MS3 was far more satifactory at procuring such than MS4, and MS3 has far superior replay &/or loop characteristics. Cheers

I am a choral composer and find that the MS4 playback (with Musesounds) is almost unusable (I have posted several entries on the Support Forum) and I am trying to find similar people who I can compare notes with. The support team have done their best but I feel that perhaps MuseSounds just needs further development. Do you, like myself, have problems with voices not coming in quite on time, and going crazy on loud sections.

Ali,
Muse Sounds are constantly being updated. Brass was updated last week or so. I agree that much more needs to be done. On my system, there is no delay. On some my less powerful systems, there can be some problems. This is one of the reasons I bought this computer.

As I understand it, These forums are for people to post problems. Then there is discussion. Sometimes the problems are solved. And sometimes not. Problems that are not solved can be reported on Guthub where developers will see them. Playback problems often ( but not always ) due to user error or an underpowered system. Everyone's computer is different. What works for one person might not work for another. The developers can't have everyone's computer to test on. It is reasonable to assume that developers have very powerful computers to begin with. Then they put out versions of the software for the general public to try. MU4 has been in general public testing for almost 2 years.

Therefore, as I have tried all the usual suggestions with regard to adjusting computer audio settings, there remains no options but to sit and wait and hope that a version of playback is released that behaves for voices. I cannot afford to invest time and money in a new powerful computer. So if the problem I'm having is unique to my experience (which Is what I'm worried about!), then I'll just have to put up with it.
By posting here I was hoping that other "choral" or "voice" people out there might have noticed similar problems (which they don't appear to have done so far ;-) ) and if they had, I could rest assured that eventually someone would be working on it, developers included, but only if they are AWARE of the problem.
PS Just tried MuseSounds Keys with Upright Piano playing the choral parts. Everything in perfect rhythm! Hurray! Think I'll use this from now on.

Believe me, I agree that The choral sounds leave something to be desired. As do some of the very sloppy solo instruments. As do the violin sections that tend to swell on successive quarter and hand half notes. In the meantime, we find ( as you did ) workarounds.

Bebbspoke,
I know what it is to use a program and get used to the way it does things. And build work processes around how the program works. Then a new version comes along and many of the routines I used don't work in the new program. I get it. I don't have MU3 on this computer. Though I used it for years on an older system. I never used the ability to playback separate voices on the same staff. Nor have I ever used the loop function. But that's just me. During my time as a choir member and director, there was no notation software.
But it sounds like MU3 is much more useful for you. Nothing wrong with that.

Hello,

If you are trying to yield more satisfactory playback results for an orchestral piece, then my short video tutorial may interest you.

Hope this helps.
