MuseScore 4 doesn't remember my changes to the parts in a big band score

• Dec 6, 2023 - 18:52

I have a score that was created from the Jazz > Big Band template, but I've made some changes to the instrumentation: I've simplified the sax and trumpet sections, eliminating Alto Sax 2, Tenor Sax 2, Trumpet 2 and Trumpet 4, and combining those instruments onto the Alto 1, Tenor 1, Trumpet 1 and Trumpet 3 parts, respectively.

The problem I have is that every time I close and re-open the score, all of my customizations to those individual parts are lost. When I open the score, all of the individual parts (including the added Tuba part) are open and retain the customizations I've made, but the combined Alto, Tenor and Trumpet parts are not open, and when I do open them, the breaks, custom positions, etc. are missing. Also there are totally empty "zombie" parts labeled "2", "2", "2", and "4" at the bottom of the parts list (representing the removed Alto 2, Tenor 2, Trumpet 2 and Trumpet 4 parts).

I'm attaching a copy of the saved score.

SOLVED!

The issue was the slashes in the part names. On a hunch I tried changing the part names from "Alto Sax 1/2" to "Alto Sax 1 & 2", etc. That fixed it. Without the slashes in the part names, all customizations to the parts are retained when I close and reopen the score.
