beginner: switching between notes and rests
very simple question . I have openned a new file in 4/4 and trying to enter one bar
dottedcrotchet followed by quaver tied to a crotchet followed by a crotchet which is tied to semibreve in following bar. I clicked on the pencil (top left) but all I get is rests . How do I get notes? and how to insert rests once I have succeeded in getting notes.

While you are learning, don't click the pencil. Hit "N" on your keyboard instead. Then select the note duration you want from the tool bar. Then you can place that duration on the staff. Same with rests. Hit "N" again to turn off note and rest entry. Changing note or rest duration on already placed notes can be done without using N. Select the note and select the desired duration form the tool bar. Also, spend some time in the manual.

Muse Core problem: whenever I log on to my Imac , I am running Monterey 12.7.1
I get a pop-up telling me Muse HUB is trying to install a new helper I do as suggested (enter my apple password and click install helper. I get a different pop-up which tells me that you're taking too long and offers reset.. or quit. Reset does nothing. if I press quit the popup disappearsand when I launch MuseScore 4 it opens successfully. Not a serious problem, just a but irritating
