Deleting a time signature deletes all following special barlines until next time signature, even if no change to content is necessary
When you delete a time signature and the program has to reposition all the music according to the new measure size, it makes sense that it may be unable to keep the special (ie mainly double and repeat) barlines after it, because it may not know where to put them.
However, if I decide I need to start the 4/4 section one measure earlier and I first place the earlier one, then delete the latter, all the barlines will be deleted even though no note or rest needs to move (and nothing moves!).
The result is that for each change involving time signatures, one may have to leave invisible ones behind to not have to redo a bunch of work after that point.

I experimented with this. I had a piece in 3/4. Measure 4 was the last measure that had notes. I changed measure 6 to 5/4 and added notes through measure 9. Measure 10 I changed to 4/4. and added notes for several measures. then I decided that the 5/4 needed to start a measure earlier. So I changed measure 5 to 5/4. Then I deleted the 5/4 signature in measure 6. Measure 5 became 5/4 and no change in measures 6 - 9. Then I decided that the 4/4 in measure 10 needed to happen a measure earlier. I made measure 9 4/4. Result, A new measure was added after the new 4/4 measure 9. Notes on the former beat 5 of the 5/4 measure are nor in the first beat of the added measure. This new measure can be deleted from the score.
