Chords Too Close Together

• Mar 6, 2024 - 18:15

Hello! I'm very new to scoring in general and have tried my best to look up answers myself when having trouble. This however I haven't been able to find so I thought I'd ask here. I want to use chords and didn't have an issue on my first small score. However, this time, the Chords are overlapping because the name of a chord seems to be too long (Gsus4) and extends into the next measure where a new chords is played (C). This makes the readability not that great so I was wondering if there is anyway to fix that.

The problem spot is measure 22 and 23, at the end of the score. I looked into spacing measures but I can't get it to make space between two measure. I don't want a break in the measure, I do want it to be continuous, I just want there to be space between the two measures so the chords don't overlap. Thank you!

I used a combination of increasing the "Leading Space" on the notes of the C chord in measure 23 (which moves the notes and the accompanying chord symbol to the right) and decreasing the "Offset" of the Gsus chord symbol in measure 22 (which moves only the chord symbol to the left). I "Offset" the Gsus chord symbol by "-1" and increased the "Leading Space" on the notes to "2". Experiment with different values to determine how YOU like it.
