Notation vs. Playback
New user here. From various comments I’ve seen on these forums, I get the impression that MS is designed to be primarily a notation app. Consequently, not all of the embellishments will work in playback. I have no problem with this, as I am a copyist, and not a composer! However, I do generate learning tracks for choir, so I need some basic playback: fermatas, tempo changes, breath marks, repeats, coda sections.
If this is, in fact, the case, is there anyplace that would tell me what works, and what doesn’t? I could find out myself by experimenting, but it would be nice if I could skip some of those steps
If I’m wrong about my initial premise, I won’t be insulted if someone says so!

Assuming you are using MuS 4, all the ones you mentioned--"fermatas, tempo changes, breath marks, repeats, coda sections"--do affect playback ... unless you explicitly set them not to. Most of them work in earlier versions but I'm not 100% sure which do or not: I've used the earlier versions (2 and 3) but have not for quite a while.
For other marks, the second easiest way to find out is to look in the handbook (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4).
The easiest way is to just try them. Create a brief bit of notation: for example, a few measures of ascending and descending scales. Add the mark you are interested in somewhere in the middle. It will usually be immediately obvious whether it affects playback or not. Simply playing with the software is the best way to learn about it.
All these do play back (breath marks being sort of an exception, you'd need to tweak their 'pause'property to not be 0)

I coulda swore that breath marks did pause by default, but turned out I was thinking of caesura. Thanks for correcting me.
Hi, I use MS 3.6.2 with the basic soundfound . Now, I'm no more playing in a group, with real musicians, so, my own pleasure is to get a good "sound", so I spend a lot of time to try to look like the original I choose. It is the point of any notation software to produce a score. Some playback better that others. But you need to spend some time in the manual. just like you would any software that is new to you. Yes, breath marks need to be adjusted in properties. Fermatas can be also.
